Research projects

I am keenly interested in chemo-ecological aspects of mosquito host finding. Working under Rickard Ignell, I focus on functional characterization of antennal olfactory sensory units, and odour perception of natural ligands in these species. My previous work centered on populations genetics, genetic diversity and host-associated speciation, using ecological and molecular markers, on the polyphagous pest Bemisia tabaci, invasive post harvest pest Prostephanus truncatus and its predator Teretrius nigrescens.

I was born in Siaya, Kenya, in 1974. I graduated with a BSc, Agricultural Education and Extension from Egerton University, Njoro in 1998. From 2001, I pursued studies for MPhil Entomology degree in Entomology at the University of Ghana, Legon. In 2005, I joined the International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (ICIPE) for a PhD in Insect Population Genetics, Ecology and Biological Control (applied to the control of the larger grain borer, Prostephanus truncatus), graduating from North West University, South Africa, in 2009.
