The eel stock and fisheries in Sweden and elsewhere in Europe have been in decline for a long time. A report by researchers at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences provide a comprehensive and easy-to-read overview of the status of the eel stock in Sweden. The aim is to inform all parties involved and to facilitate the societal debate.

”We present this report as a step in the process of comparing the current eel status with the targets of the eel management plan in 2012. We describe the underlying facts and figures of the state of the stock and the fishery”, says Willem Dekker, researcher at the Department of Aquatic Resources, SLU.

The report summarises available information that spans over more than half a century. Here you find historical data series on eel recruitment, restocking, habitats and their productivity. The impact of fishing and hydropower generation on the eel stock status are also shown.

This report is the first in the series Aqua reports, published by the Department of Aquatic Resources at SLU.
