SLU gathers forces for global cooperation towards sustainable food security and rural development

SLU Global is a new program for the development of a productive and sustainable global agriculture. Inauguration ceremoni will take place Wednesday 26 September at SLU Ultuna, Uppsala.

The SLU programme “Agricultural Sciences for Global Development” (SLU Global) is a new initiative which aligns SLU’s long-term efforts and engagement to increase sustainable agricultural production and food security in low-income countries.

- SLU has a global mission and we meet pressing global challenges by providing a scientific approach to high quality research, education and expert council in all our efforts, says Professor Arvid Uggla, director of SLU Global.

In collaboration with partners in low income countries departments at SLU, together with our national and international partners, develop research, higher education, and capacity building programs with focus on global development. These partnerships strengthen the international perspective in all of SLU’s endeavours.

Official Inauguration
The official inauguration of SLU Global will take place in conjunction with the annual conference Agricultural Research for Development; Innovations and Incentives, which takes place 26-27 September at SLU, Ultuna, 5 to 7 pm at ’Loftet’, Ultuna, Uppsala.

During the inauguration of SLU Global, a Memorandum of Understanding will be signed between SLU and the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture, Iita, Ibadan, Nigeria. It is the Vice Chancellor Lisa Sennerby Forsse and Director General of IITA, Dr. Nteranya Sanginga,  who signs the five-year cooperation agreement.
