The mission of SLU Global is to strengthen the university’s commitment, through a scientific approach, to issues related to improved agricultural productivity, food security and sustainable livelihoods in low-income countries. On 26 September, the SLU Global programme was officially inaugurated, and in connection with this a five-year cooperation agreement between SLU and an international institute in Nigeria was signed.
The inauguration ceremony took place during the annual conference Agricultural Research for Development, ”Innovations & Incentives”, held at SLU Ultuna on 26–27 September. Vice-Chancellor Lisa Sennerby Forsse, SLU, and Dr Nteranya Sanginga, Director-General at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) in Ibadan, Nigeria, signed a Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation in the above-mentioned fields. The agreement is valid for five years.
Other participants at the inaugural ceremony included Ambassador Lennart Båge and Deputy Director-General Tomas Dahlman from the Swedish Ministry for Rural Affairs.
