SLU's Strategy 2009-2012

SLU's strategy for research, education and environmental monitoring and assessment 2009-2012.

Our activities and knowledge feel more important than ever before, and this document tells you what we can do and what we want to invest in. Whilst our activities are at the core of societal development, they are simultaneously close to the everyday life of so many people - regardless of weather these concerns climate, protection against infection, food safety, water, bio-resources, gene-technology or animal and human health.

All Swedish universities and colleges have been commissioned to submit a strategy proposal to the Swedish Government. Collectively these will represent the academic world’s voice and input to the Government’s policy on higher education and research. We know that our research, education and environmental monitoring and assessment contribute to a better quality of life and increased growth both domestically and elsewhere in the world. We are also aware that our collaboration with other universities both nationally and internationally is vital in order to maintain high quality and develop our activities.

This document is both an alignment a starting point for continuation of our activities. This fall we start an international peer review of all ongoing research at our university. The process and the result will also be important parts of our development. Our institution will now discuss and develop strategies, specify targets and – with collective force – realise the vision of becoming a world leading Life Sciences University.

Vice-Chancellor, SLU
