Monitoring urban development

Researchers at SLU are examining the problem of urban sprawl from a Swedish perspective.

In 2011 SLU, Hässleholm Municipality and Blekinge Institute of Technology will be starting a joint study aimed at describing urban development in Hässleholm over the past few decades.

"We want to identify and visualise the urban development that has actually taken place and compare it with planned development, before going on to discuss the results with various actors. If we built more intelligently, we would be able to save money, while also achieving a more efficient infrastructure and greater access to green areas for recreation," says Mattias Qviström, Project Leader of the Hässleholm Study.
