Scenarios for sub-Saharan Africa

Within the framework for Future Agriculture are four possible scenarios for sub-Saharan Africa developed. It is done in collaboration between researchers at SLU, Nordic Africa Institute, Lund University and Swedish Defence Research Agency (FOI), who also led the process.

General morphological analysis has been used to build scenarios. The method has been developed to analyze complex problems where causal relationship between input factors need not be known and in which both quantitative and qualitative factors may be present.

A group of stakeholders and scientists met at a seminar March 15, 2011 to identify, from their perspective and developed scenarios, future knowledge needs and research issues related to agriculture in sub-Saharan Africa.

The scenarios and results of the seminar will be used in efforts to identify key research issues related to agriculture in sub-Saharan Africa. The work will be completed by spring 2012.

The following are included in the group that develops scenarios:
Agnes Andersson, Lund University
Jan Bengtsson, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences
Thomas Håkansson, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences
Mats Hårsmar, Nordic Africa Institute
Ulf Magnusson, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences
Justin MacDermot, Swedish Defence Research Agency
Gert Nyberg, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences
Maria Stenström, Swedish Defence Research Agency (process manager)
Katarina Vrede, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences
Eva Wredle, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences
