Research

How can researchers support nature interpreters? What do we know already today, and what questions are there still to answer?

One of the tasks of SCNI is to prompt and initiate research, development and application. In 2008, SCNI was tasked by the Unit of Environmental Communication at the Department of Urban and Rural Development with reviewing the research that had been done within the field of nature interpretation. The review was carried out by Vanessa Coronel and Lars Hallgren and the main focus was international. The aim was to present a review of research that can be relevant for nature interpreters.

Vanessa Coronel and Lars Hallgren searched for articles on subjects like environmental education, interpretation evaluation and outdoor recreation. Many researchers try to answer questions about the effectiveness of different methods, different tools for evaluation and what happens to the participant while nature interpretation is taking place.

The review is currently only available in Swedish, but please do contact us if you want to know more. There are plans for making a new review, since this is a constantly changing field and updates are needed.
