Annika Djurle

AgrD, senior lecturer in plant pathology.

Presentation

My main interest is plant disease epidemiology; how plant pathogens spread and how and why diseases develop in crops. Disease development depends on characteristics both in the pathogen causing disease and in its host plant and on environmental factors, especially the weather, and the cultivation practices. Disease biology and characteristics in populations of plant pathogenic fungi are also within my area of interests. Additionally I have a major engagement in teaching plant pathology at basic and advanced levels.

Projects:

  • Development of a practical selection method for tan spot resistance in wheat at CIMMYT and analysis of the population structure of Pyrenophora tritici-repentis in Mexico
  • Mapping of resistance to septoria tritici blotch in wheat and interactions with environment
  • Fungal communities in wheat
  • Fusarium fungi and mycotoxins in winter wheat

Other interests: Ramularia leaf spot in barley, diseases in faba beans, effects on plant diseases by global and climate change, leaf spot diseases in wheat, rust in small grains.
