PhD-student working on spatial distribution of soil physical properties as well as the webpages.

Presentation

The projects concern spatial variation of soil physical properties and yield within fields. The focus lies on hydraulic conductivity, penetration resistance and root growth. We also look at the effects of deep loosening, long term effects of (to) long drainage distances and compaction during seeding of Sugar beets.

The main project concerns site specific, fast measurements of yield limiting soil physical parameters. A horizontal, tractor pulled, penetrometer has been developed and is used to map the penetration resistance at three levels within one field. As a complement, cylinders are taken out and used for analysis of water conductivity, water holding capacity and bulk density. The field has been yield mapped since 1996 and the soil physical parameters will be compared to the yield.
