The department runs the National Reference Laboratory for bee health. You can read more about that in Swedis .

We diagnose samples of adult bees and brood sent to us by bee inspectors around the country. Analyses of notifiable diseases like American foulbrood are free of charge for the beekeeper. We analyze other suspected diseases by agreement on compensation or as part of research projects.

The laboratory is responsible for the surveillance of honeybee diseases in Sweden, and yearly reports on infectious diseases and parasites in honeybees can be found in the report “Surveillance of infectious diseases in animals and humans” published by the National Veterinary Institute, SVA.

The laboratory is accredited according to ISO 17025:2018.
