Elisabet Eriksson

I am interested in forest ecology with special focus on wood-inhabiting fungi. In forest ecosystems, dead wood is a key habitat for many different organisms, including fungi. The decomposition of wood is to a large extent influenced by fungal activity. The structure and composition of fungal communities are in turn influenced by mycelial interactions between fungi inhabiting the same woody substrate.

I am working as a PhD-student within the project “Succession of wood-inhabiting fungal communities in decaying Norway spruce logs” together with Jan Stenlid, Anders Dahlberg , Otso Ovaskainen, Karl-Henrik Larsson and Ariana Kubartová. We are studying temporal dynamics in fungal communities and how species interactions influence the composition and distribution of fungal communities in relation to the decay process of the wood substrate. These questions are approached by descriptive and correlative studies of fungal communities as well as by species interaction experiments.
