My main research interest is the molecular mechanisms of host-microbe interaction biology.
I have previously mainly worked with the transcriptome of the Heterobasidion -conifer pathosystem both with the fungus and the host response of spruce, pine and hybrid aspen. Besides the necrotrophic forest pathogen I have also worked with saprotrophic fungi and mutualistic ectomycorrhiza as well as arbuscularmycorrhiza during host interaction.
Although most of my research have been done in the lab with axenic cultures and molecular techniques I have also got experience of field experiments with clonal spruce trees with different susceptibility towards Heterobasidion annosum. In my current position as a researcher I characterize the 454-obtained transcriptome of spruce clones with different susceptibility towards H. annosum during interaction with H. annosum. The focus is on the secondary metabolites from the spruce and the different effects of wounding and inoculation of the forest pathogen. The project is a collaborative project with chemists from KTH at the Department of Chemical Ecology and researchers from Skogforsk and SLU e.g. Jan Stenlid , Malin Elfstrand.
