The department has a good international reputation and is world-leading in several central research fields related to fungi, pathogens and soil.

During the period 2008 - 2013 24 PhD degrees were awarded at the department. In August 2013, 16 PhD students were enrolled of which 12 have their basic degree from a country outside Sweden, and 1 is a sandwich student.

If you are interested in doing a PhD at the department, please have a look at the current research projects. Individual PhD projects are initiated when grants and supervisors become available. Fore further information contact a researcher working in the area you are interested in.

Information for PhD students and supervisors at the department

Download an information sheet for PhD students at the department.

Besides thesis and course work, the PhD students should attend our general Seminar Series where they will give seminars within their research area as well as a Broaden Knowledge (BK) seminar.  Read more about BK seminars here, and see suggestions for topics here. PhD students will also present and discuss their work in our smaller regularly meeting discussion groups, covering microbial ecology, pathology and saprotrophs, and a journal club covering genetic questions.

PhD courses within our research areas are mostly given within the SLU Research Schools and together with other departments.

Specific guidelines for postgraduate studies at the faculty can be found here. More general information is available at SLU's PhD student web page and the SLU internal PhD education page.

The ULS PhD Student council has very useful information on their homepage, especially for foreign PhD students starting at SLU Uppsala.

Important information concerning working at the department can be found on the Common Data server, in the folder Departmental Info. The information is available in both Swedish ("Valkommen_svenskt") and English ("Welcome to the dept").
