Forest inventory and sampling is an important area for a large number of applications within practical forestry and environmental studies.
Forest inventory and sampling includes general theory for sampling, field-based forest and landscape inventory, and to these activities linked modeling and development of inventory systems that utilize several data sources. Forest inventory today includes a number of aspects that are relevant for sustainable forestry, both data on trees and stands as well as data on biodiversity and greenhouse gas balances. In sampling, general methods are developed that also substantiate important parts of the forest inventory area. The subject area contributes with knowledge for a large number of applications in practical forestry and continuous environmental monitoring and assessment.
