Mentorship programme

Participating in a mentorship programme gives students an opportunity to establish a good contact for their future professional life.

Such a programme also sets the stage for other stimulating collaborative efforts between the university and businesses and organisations. As a result, employers, trade organisations and unions become more knowledgeable about higher education.

A mentorship programme is based on a personal relationship between the mentor and trainee, the goal of which is mutual development and improvement. The mentor and trainee design the structure of their collaboration, but the basic idea is that the student will have a contact in the business world that can respond to questions and reflections about studies and future career choices.

Mentorship programme at SLU

Ethology and Animal Welfare in Skara is currently the only degree programme at SLU to offer a mentorship programme for its students. The programme, which targets students in years 2 and 3, is a collaborative effort between the University of Skövde, Campus Lidköping (Learning Centre) and SLU in Skara.

Mentors and trainees meet face to face every 4-6 weeks and are also invited to participate in get-togethers that include lectures, coffee and socialising.

The contact person for the mentorship programme at SLU in Skara is Jane Geismar (jane.geismar@adm.slu.se).
