Since 2003, the Swedish National Agency for Higher Education has analysed how well students at Sweden’s institutions of higher education have established themselves in the labour market 12-18 months after graduation. The new features of this year’s report are that differences are measured between graduates with Swedish and foreign background, as well as between employees and entrepreneurs. The report found that 80 per cent of 2006/07 graduates were established in the labour market in 2008. The great majority had a profession that required higher education.

Almost 90 per cent of the 7,400 people who received a doctoral degree in 2000, 2002 and 2005 had established themselves in the labour market in 2008. Framtidsutsikter - Arbetsmarknaden för akademikeryrken år 2015 (Future Prospects – the Labour Market for Academic Professions in 2015)
Report by Saco, July 2010
Saco publishes an annual report entitled “Framtidsutsikter” (Future Prospects), which analyses the chances of various educational groups to obtain jobs within five years when current new entrants have completed their studies. The forecasts, which are presented in three main categories – not enough, just enough, too many – are based on calculations by Saco’s various affiliated associations. Among the professions that, according to the report, will not have enough graduates in five years are occupational therapists, vocational teachers in the upper secondary schools, psychologists, physiotherapists and dentists. A new feature of the report is that labour market prospects are assessed separately for new graduates and people with work experience.

En bro över glappet – om samverkan och arbteslivsanknytning i den högre utbildningen (A Bridge over the Gap – Collaboration and Links to Working Life in Higher Education)
Report by the Saco Student Council, 17 May 2010
A growing number of studies are finding that contacts and applications for unadvertised vacancies lead to jobs more often than repeated visits to the Swedish Public Employment Service (Arbetsförmedling). Moreover, it is increasingly important for students to establish contact with the labour market while they are still in school and prepare themselves for working life. The purpose of this report is to demonstrate that collaboration and links with working life can be part of a student’s day-to-day activities.
