Apply for a job in Sweden
Time to look for a job? Where do you start? There are many different ways and approaches to finding a job these days.
Businesses use advertising, recruitment agencies, networks and contacts when filling vacancies. If you want to find your dream job, your best bet is to stay up to date and take advantage of as many different channels as possible.
Improve your chances
As a student, you have many different options for acquiring and upgrading knowledge and experience.
Here are a few suggestions:
- Use your time at the university wisely. If you know what kind of career you will be pursuing, you can create a niche for yourself by taking specialised courses or completing degree projects in relevant subject areas. Why not do your degree project at the kind of company you dream of working for? Show them that you are interested, motivated and engaged, and that you would be a great asset to their company.
- Get involved in school and the community. Participate in student union activities, associations, and labour market days, etc. This will create opportunities for you to make new contacts and gain new experiences that might come in handy down the track. Your classmates and teachers are important contacts – don’t pass up the chance to build a network.
- Getting involved in the student union in particular is a great way to explore new areas of interest and learn how such an organisation works.
- A job on the side, especially if it is related to your future occupation, is an excellent means of gaining professional experience while you are still in school. If you are given the option of doing a traineeship as part of your course, take it! It is also worthwhile (and fun!) to travel as much as possible. This will expose you to many different cultures and types of people, and enable you to explore many new situations.
Remember, many roads can lead you to your goal – be willing to take chances! Be proactive and take the opportunities that are offered while you are still in school. This will only help you in your future professional career.
