What economical impact does the climate change have on agriculture? Do you want a career dealing with economic aspects of agriculture, food production and natural resources? Ongoing structural changes make great demands of those involved in the agricultural sector. Detailed understanding of the issues is needed to meet the major challenges facing the sector. With master level studies in Agricultural Economics and Management you will gain a broad understanding of business administration or economics as they apply to agriculture, agribusiness and agricultural policy. You choose one of the tracks in business administration/management or economics. The choice is depending on your bachelor background which has to correspond to the track chosen at SLU due to the prerequisites for the respective courses. In the business management track you read courses in environmental and social responsibility marketing management, production economics, cooperatives and other agri-food systems, research methods in business management, supply chain networks and ethics. In the economics track, you take courses in international food system analysis, cost benefit analysis in agricultural and environmental projects, production economics, probability theory and statistical inference, econometrics, environmental policy and applied demand and supply analysis. Structural changes in the agricultural sector have created a substantial demand for economists with in-depth knowledge of business administration and economics in the agricultural field. Economists within these skills are finding employment in the private as well as in the public sectors. Potential employers include banks, financial institutions, advisory services, agricultural cooperatives, support and lobby organizations and authorities. Some of our students also become self-employed, either as consultants or in their own agricultural business. Graduated students are also well equipped to apply to a PhD programme.
