How do I apply to study at SLU?

All post-graduate applications to SLU are done through the website universityadmissions.se, a national central application system that allows students to apply for several programmes and courses at different universities in the one application.  Applications can be made from the 1st December 2011 to the 15th January 2012.  For more information about the application procedure, visit universityadmissions.se.

I am currently in my final year of my Bachelor's programme.  Can I still apply to a Master's programme, even if I have not yet finished my degree?

Yes, you can still apply.  An official document stating that you are likely to be awarded the degree by the start of the Master's programme must be sent to universityadmissions.se with your application. The document must be issued through and certified by a representative of the Academic Registrar's Office, the Examinations Office or equivalent of the institution. Certification from other staff members, such as faculty or college staff members, will not be accepted.  To read more, please visit universityadmissions.se. 

Do I need to pay student fees to study at SLU?

Students who are citizens of a country outside of the European Union (EU), the European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland are required to pay application and tuition fees.  However, this does not include exchange students or PhD students.  All fee-paying students are guaranteed housing during their stay, and this will be organised for them by SLU. 

Students who are citizens of a country within the EU, EEA and Switzerland are not required to pay application or tuition fees.  For more information, visit universityadmissions.se. 

How much does it cost to study at SLU?

SLU charges between SEK 85 000 and SEK 260 000 per academic year.  To find out how much a specific programme costs, visit the programme’s website.

Does SLU offer scholarships?

There are scholarships available for fee-paying students through both SLU and the Swedish Institute (SI).  Those offered by SLU cover tuition fees, however, the number of scholarships awarded changes from year to year.  Information about scholarships at SLU, including how to apply, will be provided during the application period.

Do I need a visa to study in Sweden, and if so, how do I apply?

If you are a citizen of a country outside of the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (EEA), you need to apply for a visa to study in Sweden.  This includes both exchange students and fee-paying Master's students.  Visas are organised through the Swedish immigration office, Migrationsverket.  For information on how to apply, visit Migrationsverket. 

If you are a citizen of an EU and EEA country, you do not need to apply for a visa to study in Sweden.  However, you will need to apply for a residence permit within three months of your arrival in Sweden.  Residence permits are organised through the Swedish immigration office, Migrationsverket.  For information on how to apply, visit Migrationsverket.

How does the credit system work?

The Swedish University Credit System awards 1.5 credits for each completed week of full-time study.  This system is compatible with the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). 1 Swedish credit = 1 ECTS credit.

Will SLU organise accommodation for me or do I need to organise it myself?

If you are a fee-paying Master's student or attending SLU as part of an exchange programme, accommodation will be organised on your behalf.
