Master's Studies at SLU

The programmes and courses offered by SLU are unique, as is the combination of teaching and research.  In fact, SLU is one of Sweden’s most research-intensive universities, and is responsible for almost one third of all biological research in Sweden. On account of this research, we can offer students a wide variety of Master’s programmes based on SLU's strength and profile areas, providing students with countless opportunities for interesting and in-depth studies and specialisations.

SLU has one of the highest teacher-to-student ratios in Sweden, and many of SLU’s teaching and research staff are the current world-leaders in their fields.  This allows students to receive the most current, up-to-date information and to learn from the very best.

The university is committed to developing the internationalisation of its syllabus, network and student experience.  As a result, almost all of our Master's programmes are conducted in English, connecting students with the world's most current issues, and increasing their global employability.

SLU's Master's programmes beginning Autumn 2013 are now open for application.  To apply, visit universityadmissions.se

Credits

The Swedish University Credit System awards 1.5 credits for each completed week of full-time study.  This system is compatible with the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). 1 Swedish credit = 1 ECTS credit.

The Swedish academic year is divided into two semesters.  One semester of full-time study (100%) is equal to 30 credits.  Each semester is divided into two periods, worth 15 credits each.  These periods are divided into two blocks, Block A and Block B.  Not all courses can be studied full-time, and some courses may run for more than one period.  Most courses at SLU are worth between 5 – 15 credits.

Please note, if you are taking two part-time courses in the same period, you should try and choose courses that add up to 100% study.

Remember to only choose courses at one campus as it is not possible to study at two different campuses at the same time.
