''I chose to study at SLU because they offered so many excellent courses about horses and dogs, two of my biggest interests, and because a professor from my home university in Slovenia strongly recommended SLU to me. I was also very interested in coming to Sweden because of the great interest in horses and the history of horses in general. I am a current Master’s student but I also work as a horse instructor, so the Swedish horse culture definitely appealed to me.
I love studying at SLU because it is such a good university and I really feel like a student here. Everyone works really hard, but there is also so much support for students. There is always help available if you need it, and the university in general is very well organised. It’s actually a lot bigger than my home university. There are a lot of valuable facilities for students on campus, and I really appreciate the common study rooms. I often stay at school to study with my friends.
It is great fun living in Uppsala. I love the fact that it is such a student city. I live in a student dormitory (here it’s called a student corridor), and I love it. My housemates and I have become a big family. I recently came back from Slovenia and when I got to my corridor it felt like I had come home. People are so nice and helpful and of course there are a lot of great parties.
I also love the fact that SLU and in fact all of Uppsala is a very international environment. I have classmates from all over the world and have made so many new friends. Swedish people are also very English proficient, which is very helpful as an international student. Everyone can speak English here, even young children and very old people.
In the future I hope to continue riding and working with horses, and perhaps at some point start working with animal welfare.
I would really recommend SLU to other international students.''
