Undergraduate and postgraduate students who are admitted to pursue higher education at Swedish state universities and colleges are covered by personal injury insurance for the duration of their studies. To be covered by personal injury insurance, students must be registered in LADOK, the national system that records students’ studies and results. Once a student is registered, they are automatically covered.
As this insurance only covers students during school hours and direct travel to and from the learning institution, it is important that each student also organises adequate insurance that covers their leisure time.
SLU purchases insurance from the Legal, Financial and Administrative Services Agency (Kammarkollegiet), the oldest public authority in Sweden.
Students are covered by one of the following forms of insurance depending on what kind of student they are.
- Exchange students and non-fee-paying international students are covered by Student IN / OUT
- Erasmus Mundus students are covered by Erasmus Mundus Insurance
- Fee-paying first or second-cycle students are covered by FAS+
- International visitors to the university, including guest lecturers and partner university representatives, are covered by GIF
- In addition, all students should receive a European Health Insurance Card
Only SLU can purchase insurance from the Legal, Financial and Administrative Services Agency. Students cannot purchase this insurance themselves, however, students are responsible for organising additional insurance to cover their leisure time.
Please note, if the student will be travelling overseas as part of a programme, course or university project, the university department is responsible for purchasing insurance for the student through the Legal, Financial and Administrative Services Agency.
