PhD Studies

The Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) is one of Sweden’s top research universities, with an extensive range of research degrees on offer.  As a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) student, you will be a part of a supportive research community and an exciting and challenging research culture.  At SLU, we provide a rich and stimulating environment for our students.  The majority of our research schools are interdisciplinary, many of our supervisors are at the forefront of scientific discovery and SLU’s expert knowledge is increasingly in demand. 

There are approximately 700 PhD students enrolled at SLU at any given time, and each year, around 100 new students graduate with a Doctor of Philosophy degree. 

The aim of postgraduate education at SLU is to prepare students for careers in basic and applied research, teaching and/or university administration, as well as influential positions in the business and public sectors.  During their studies, students will have the opportunity to develop their communication skills, and learn more about management and leadership.  Students will also have the chance to build exciting and useful networks with members of the university world, different industrial branches and the greater community.
