As part of their PhD studies, students will produce a written thesis, consisting of a synthesis based on three to four papers that should have been accepted by, or at least submitted to, an international scientific journal with a referee system or a monograph. A printed thesis should be available for public scrutiny before the candidate's dissertation.
Each candidate is required to defent their thesis as part of their public examination, or dissertation. This is done in a public seminar with an examinar or apponent appointed by the faculty board. The opponent, who critically examines the thesis, is often invited in from another university. An examination committee (betygsnämnd) will decide whether candidates pass or fail.
Once a year SLU holds its degree conferment ceremony. New doctors as well as doctors honoris causa and jubilee doctors are then conferred their awards.
SLU, the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, has its main locations in Alnarp, Uppsala and Umeå.Tel: +46 18-67 10 00 • Fax: +46 18-67 20 00 • VAT nr: SE202100281701 • About the website
