SLU (The Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences) makes Top Ten when Times Higher Education (THE) ranks the best small universities of the world. SLU makes ninth place internationally, and sixth place among the European.

“We are happy and proud to make the list. It confirms the staff´s professionalism and dedication in education and research, which leads to good results in our disciplins”, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Karin Holmgren comments.

The criteria for being billed a ”smaller university” is having less than 4,000 students and at least four subjects.

At the top of the ranking list are, in order, California Institute of Technology, USA, École Normale Supérieure, France, and the Pohang University of South Korea.

THE comments: “Although there are only 4,000 students at (SLU), they are spread out across several campuses around Sweden. The university offers far more than just courses in the agricultural sciences. Its remit covers architecture, engineering and economics among others. A strong emphasis is placed on research, and the institution produces about 1,500 papers a year.”
