The Department carries out research, teaching and the dissemination of information in the border areas between biology and technology. The activities have an interdisciplinary and applied profile, which encom passes complete systems for production and the maintenance of natural resources. The aim is to combine good management of natural resources with an effective, sustainable and economical production. Great emphasis is placed on the areas of the animal, working and outdoor environments, including production quality.

The Department has the main national responsibility with respect to farm building issues and complements many other areas of SLU’s competence on a national level. In addition, the Department focuses on questions that are specific for agriculture in southern Sweden.
