The Department of chemistry conducts research and education in the fields of inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, organic chemistry, natural products chemistry and molecular biogeochemistry.
The Department of chemistry is part of Uppsala BioCenter, and moved to the new BioCenter building in 2011.
Many research projects focus on environmental issues, whereas other projects are oriented towards analysis of biological systems using chemical and spectroscopic methods.
The Department of chemistry offers courses in chemistry on the undergraduate and graduate levels. The undergraduate courses are intended for students at natural science programmes at SLU, but can also be taken as individual courses.
At the Department of chemistry there are two NMR spectrometers, four mass spectrometers, two X-ray diffractometers, one calorimeter, one scanning electron microscope, and several HPLC and GC equipments.
