We offer courses in statistics and mathematics at undergraduate and graduate level. The courses are often part of an educational programme but can be applied to even as single-subject course.

Here you can find a selection of courses to take if you want to deepen your knowledge in statistics:
Courses that are given each year:
Statistics for Biologists I, autumn, period 1, 7.5 HEC, given in English.
This is an elementary course intended to give basic knowledge of the principles of statistical inference. Descriptive statistics, probability theory, significance tests, confidence intervals, analysis of variance, split-plot-analysis. Use of statistical computer package.
Statistics for Biologists II, autumn, period 2, 7.5 HEC, given in English.
Linear, multiple, non-linear and logistic regression. Analysis of covariance. Analysis of frequency data and non-parametric methods. Generalised linear models. Repeated measurements. Introduction to multivariate analysis. Use of statistical computer package.
Analysis of variance and experimental design, autumn, september, 5 HEC, given in Swedish,
Design of biological experiments. Analysis of variance with one or several fixed or random factors. Block design. Multiple comparisons. Use of statistical computer package.
Analysis of variance and regression, spring, period 3, 5 HEC, given in Swedish, if there are at least 8 applicants.
Design of biological experiments. Analysis of variance with one or several fixed or random factors. Block design. Split-plot design. Linear regression and residual analysis. Use of statistical computer package.
Further courses given 2011/2012
-
Basic SAS-programming, Jan-Mar, 3hp: Reading and writing of external files, date formats, where/if statements; sums and partial sums (retain); internal SAS variables,...
This is a programming course and will not contain statistical methodology.
The course is given for Ph.D. students at SLU and cannot be applied to as a single subject course. For registering email the course leader: Claudia.von.Bromssen@slu.se (we will need to know your department and your personal number)
-
Statistical programming in R, Jan-Mar, 5hp: The course gives an introduction to the software R: how to write elementary programs and how statistical models are implemented and applied. Knowlegde av basic statistics is required (Statistics for Biologists 1 or equiv.)
The course is given for Ph.D. students at SLU and cannot be applied to as a single subject course. For registering email the course leader: Mikael.A.Andersson@slu.se (we will need to know your department and your personal number)
Analysis of categorical data, spring, period 3, 5 HEC, given in English, if there are at least 8 applicants.
Analysis of contingency tables, chi-square test, Fisher´s exact test, generalized linear models, especially logistic regression and loglinear models.´
Courses we have given earlier or could give if there is interest:
Multivariate statistical methods: Multivariate random variables, graphical methods and inference of multivariate data. Principal components, factor analysis, discrimination and cluster analysis. Canonical correlation. Orientation of multidimensional scaling and correspondence analysis. Use of statistical computer package.
Regression and time series analysis: Multiple linear regression, dummy variables, interactions, model and variable selection, model comparison. Time series regression, time series decomposition, exponential smoothing, and introduction to ARIMA modeling. Use of statistical computer package.
