About the Department
Research at the department is focused on composition, structures and properties of the most common foods of animal as well as plant origin.
We study how various factors in the production of raw food materials, e.g. animal and plant breeding, cultivation, management, storage and handling, affect foods, but also effects of various processes during the manufacture of different food products. Bioactive compounds, their occurrence, bioavailability and effects upon consumers’ health, is an area of increasing importance in our research.
The department is part of the cluster Uppsala BioCenter.
