Research

Fungal diversity and activity in decaying wood

There are several ongoing projects targeting fungal communities in Norway spruce logs and stumps, using 454 sequencing:

  • phylogenetic and ecological patterns of fungal communities in the logs
  • organic composition changes (FT-IR) during log decay and links to community compositions (cooperation with Umeå university)
  • fungal diversity in stumps on latitudinal gradient across Sweden
  • can the stumps be a substrate for rare fungi growing in nearby natural reserves? (cooperation with Oslo University)

I am also partly involved in some other projects (lichens in decaying wood, bark beetles and fungal dispersal).
