CLIMATE CHANGE AND PLANT DISEASE THREATS

The environment where agricultural production takes place is subject to a number of changes. Most attention has been given to a rise in temperature but other climatic factors, such as humidity and rainfall will also change, though the predictions about these changes are more uncertain. These climactic changes will undoubtedly affect development of plant diseases. Other factors related to global changes, such as increased trade and travel, will also increase the risk for the appearance and development of new diseases. These changes, together with the introduction (accidental or otherwise), are representative of problems that are addressed in a variety of research projects.
