PhD-student working on:

The effect of cultivation intensity and soil type on greenhouse gas emissions from organic soils

The main aim of the project is to evaluate the effect of cultivation intensity and soil type on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from organic soils. In the project we will develop mitigation options and study different processes that govern GHG emissions in cold conditions. The following work tasks will be carried out: I) Studies of the impact of different crops on CO2 emissions; II) studies of the effects of soil management intensity on CO2 emissions and biomass production; and III) characterizing different organic soil types with respect to soil physical, chemical and biological characteristics and relate these to GHG emissions. The results of the studies are intended to provide farmers with new or improved tools for mitigating GHG emissions from cultivated organic soils and to improve models used to estimate emissions from cultivated organic soils.
