Plant Nutrition & Soil Biology

Our main research focus concerns how to reduce losses of nutrients from the soil and reach and maintain a high plant productivity, i.e., a sustainable and high soil fertility in modern agriculture. Carbon fluxes and pools, their controlling factors such as land use and climate are studied, and we are responsible for compilation, modelling and reporting of Swedish soil carbon balances in agricultural land.

Key points

  • Efficient use of plant nutrients
  • Recycling of nutrients from waste products
  • Carbon dynamics in Swedish arable land with international outlook
  • Distribution and effects of humus, black carbon & other resistant carbon compounds
  • Climate, soil fertility & carbon dynamics - small-holder agriculture in Africa
  • Re-evaluation of design & analysis of long-term field trials
  • Soil biology monitoring and assessment
