Forest industrial economics

The aim for this master program is to prepare for a business career where it is essential to have business administration knowledge about the chain from forestry to consumption. After finishing the program the students should be able to organize and manage enterprises and with business administrative concepts formulate, solve and evaluate different decision options concerning industrial processing and marketing in a national and international context while considering environmental restrictions.

The students attending the program have a bachelor degree in business administration. The first year of the program gives a deeper knowledge about the business administrative theories applied on problems of the forest products companies. During the second year the knowledge is applied and synthesized. Courses given by the program are: The value added chain, Strategic planning and analysis of markets and competitors, Forest industrial marketing, Organizational and leadership theory, and Processing of wood. The last half year of the program is used for writing a master thesis. Almost once a week a guest lecturer from a company is welcomed. When teaching, emphasis is put on the forest industry as a system operating in a global world. The teachers are researchers at the department of Forest Products.

As a support a research program about marketing has been initiated at the department by the forest industry and the faculty of forest science. Other research areas at the department are wood technology and wood science, business development, the wood chain, markets and competition. An advisory board consists of representatives from the forest industry.
