The Department of Forest Products researches, educates and disseminates information in six competence areas:
Wood Science broadly includes research on wood structure and properties, wood and fibre micro- and ultrastructure, wood mycology and biotechology, microbial degradation of wood, and systems of wood protection.
Fiber Biology, an area closely associated to wood science, emphases morphological, chemical and ultrastructural properties of wood fibres during biosynthesis.
Timber Measurement assesses suitability and refining of wood and timber, including measurements, harvesting and storage.
Business Administration applies business concepts to challenges within the forestry and wood trading industries.
Forest Policy focuses on the institutional framework surrounding forest utilization in a national and international context.
International Forestry looks at forestry practices abroad, including among others, China and Russia. The Department also participates in different forms of international education in the area.
