About the Department
Forest Research in Alnarp was established in 1988 through a partnership between the forest sector and SLU. The main reason for establishment was the lack of forest research and higher education forestry in southern Sweden. The first six years consisted solely of a forest management research program. Today, the focus has gradually expanded to research and teaching under the themes of forest management planning, conservation, forest history and natural resource economics.
The Department currently has about 50 employees, including approximately 25 scientists and 15 postgraduates. Operations are conducted in close cooperation with SLU's research parks, primarily Asa and Tönnersjöhedens research forests.
The department's mission is to develop and deliver knowledge in their fields for practical use in the forest sector in southern Sweden. We work in close collaboration with the forest sector in southern Sweden. Research is conducted in thematic research and applied research. Knowledge is mainly conveyed through the institution's basic courses but also through further education, training and information efforts directed towards the forest sector.
