Research interests

My research has mainly focused on fish behavior and its applications to fish farming and to stocking practice of hatchery reared fish into natural waters or management of natural populations.
The studies have mainly focused on salmonid species such as Arctic charr, Atlantic salmon, rainbow trout and brown trout but I have also done studies on perch and grayling. I have used Passive Integrating Tagging systems in experimental set-ups with self-feeders or multi-tank systems to study individual differences in behavior (diel flexibility, competition etc.).

Other research areas are:

  • breeding programme of Arctic charr
  • sustainable alternatives to fish meal and fish oil in feed for farmed fish
  • fish´s ability to compose their daily meal from single macronutrients
  • fish welfare
