What do forest owners want with their associations?
This spring SLU will start a new project to study the future of the forest owners associations. For associations in general it is adamant to rejuvenate themselves.
Research among youth indicates that individualism will increase. This will presumably affect the demands that the coming generation forest owners will have on the service and support offered by timber buyer organizations as well as on their loyalty. More important for the associations to continue as economic associations will be to get young forest owner to engage themselves as owners to the association. This is already a problem today. At the same time the youth are quite aware of the need to cooperate to obtain desirable changes. Cooperation in their world can be something very different compared to the way forest owners are cooperating today and associations need to prepare themselves for that in time.
