Combined with shortages in skilled and motivated labour, the ever-increasing cost of stand regeneration has renewed interest in mechanized tree planting. This PhD-project is focusing on the following areas:
- Analyzing solutions for cost-efficient seedling transportation from cultivation to outplanting with focus on eliminating manual reloading of seedlings on planting machines (Article 1).
- Simulating and analyzing different mechanized planting concepts with focus on productivity (Article 2), costs, and biological results (Article 3).
- Evaluating the effect of a new prototype seedling carousel (MagMat) on planting machine productivity (Article 4).
