Ruminant Medicine and Veterinary Epidemiology

Research and post-graduate education

Research and post-graduate education within ruminant medicine is concentrated to problems relevant to the production of milk and meat. The overall aims are to provide knowledge that secures the production of healthy food from healthy animals. In the multidisciplinary area epidemiology, focus has been on how epidemiological and statistical methods can be used to study and understand the distribution of diseases in populations of animals. The division has successfully studied the aetiology, diagnosis and epidemiology of infectious and production diseases, evaluated and utilized databases on animal diseases, as well as conducted epidemiologic studies of diseases in sport and companion animals.

The section for epidemiology is responsible for parts of the course in population medicine and is responsible for the course in veterinary public health. The section for ruminant medicine is responsible for the course in ruminant medicine. The division also offers courses in continuing education for veterinarians.
