Open Archives and their Significance in the Communication of Science (Workshop in Uppsala 16-17 November)
The aim of this workshop was to introduce and sum up the current research about usage- and download data from open archives. How can usage metrics from open archives provide new knowledge about how science is communicated? Can it be a tool for future evaluation of science?
REGISTRATION FOR THIS EVENT IS CLOSED.
On 16-17 November the OpenAccess.se financed workshop Open Archives and their Significance in the Communication of Science took place in Uppsala at the Swedish University of Agricultural Science, SLU. It was also video-linked to SLU Alnarp and SLU Umeå.
Today there are several research projects concerned with how to use usage data in order to understand the new ways of how science is communicated. In this workshop we will concentrate on the research about the metrics produced by the usage of open archives and see the future benefits for science when it comes to using open archives for scientific communication.
One of the key issues in this scientific field is to develop secure and reliable statistic analysis for the usage of the objects deposited in open archives. With the increasing efforts to evaluate science in different ways it is important to understand the metrics from open archives. Can this be done? How do we get there?
We invited several interesting researchers and repository managers to give their views on the topics. See program .
