Loans
Everyone over 18 is welcome to borrow books at the SLU Library. Bring your ID card or passport to obtain a library card that is valid at all SLU libraries.
The library card is personal but requested books can be picked up on behalf of another patron bringing his or her library card.
You are responsible for returning borrowed material on time.
Loans from other libraries
Material for research and studies not found within SLU Library can be requested from other libraries. This service may be used by employees, students and customers with special agreements. Material that is found within the SLU Library but is out on loan will not be requested.
Loan periods
- Most of the SLU Libraries material can be borrowed for 30 days.
- Books placed at an department library can be borrowed for 14 days.
For students with reading and writing disabilities other loan periods apply.
Local exceptions and course literature
Alnarp Library
Loan period for course literature: 8 days. A delay charge of 10 SEK per book and day will be charged if the book is not returned on time.
Reference books may be borrowed over night and are to be returned by 10 am the following day or the first working day after a weekend or national holiday. Late returns result in a delay charge of 20 SEK per hour and book, not exceeding 100 SEK per book. Reference books cannot be renewed, requested or borrowed again for 7 days.
Hernquist Library
Loan period for course literature: 14 days.
Reference books may be borrowed from 4 pm at the earliest and are to be returned by 9 am the following day. Reference books cannot be requested.
Forestry Library
Loan period for course literature: 4 days. A delay charge of 10 SEK per book and day will be charged for books not returned on time.
Ultuna Library
Loan period for course literature: 8 days. A delay charge of 10 SEK per book and day will be charged for books not returned on time.
Books from the reference collection and course reference books can be borrowed over night and are to be returned by 10 am the following day or the first working day after a weekend or national holiday. Veterinary Library at the Clinic Centre
Loan period for course literature: 8 days.
Reference books can be borrowed from 4 pm at the earliest and are to be returned by 10 am the following day. Reference books cannot be requested.
Skinnskatteberg
Course books can only be used in the library and may not be borrowed.

- Maps
- Literature published before 1900
- Delicate or especially valuable material, for instance manuscripts, prints etc.
- Literature from special collections
Renewing your loans
Books may be renewed if they have not been requested by another patron. Renew your loans via our homepage or contact us by phone or e-mail.
Loans can be renewed several times during one year. After 12 months the book must be returned.
Renewing loans from other libraries
Contact your SLU Library to renew books that have been requested from libraries outside SLU.
Requested books
Requested books remains on the pickup shelf for 7 days. For course books the period is 4 days.
Delayed, lost or damaged books
- E-mail reminders are sent out for delayed books. Please remember to keep your contact information up to date. Log in to your account to change your details.
- If the material is not returned in spite of subsequent reminders a bill will be issued. The charge covers the replacement cost plus an administrative fee of 200 SEK per item. The minimum charge is 500 SEK. Unpaid bills are forwarded to debt collecting.
- If you damage or lose the material you have borrowed, you are liable to pay compensation. If you lose a part of a multi-volume work and the part cannot be bought separately, you are liable to pay for the replacement of the whole work. An administrative fee will be charged in addition. Normal wear and tear is not considered as damage.
Privacy
Information about loans and requests is protected according to the Law of Secrecy, chapter 22 §9 (SFS 1980:100, 1989:713).
