Indicators
Basic bibliometric indicators
Advanced bibliometric indicators
are always normalised, the publications are compared to other publications in the same subject area, the same publication year and of the same document type.
Examples
- field normalised citation score, e.g. CPP/FCSm and MNCS (about these indicators, see: Waltman, L., Eck, N. J., Leeuwen, T. N., Visser, M. S. & Raan, A. F. J. (2011). Towards a new crown indicator: an empirical analysis. Scientometrics 87, 467–481.).
- field normalised most cited publications, Top 5%, the share of publications from a group of authors that belong to the 5% most cited publications, world average=1
Alternative bibliometric indicators
New publication models e.g. Open Access journals, e-print archives, personal home pages have led to proposals for alternative indicators.
Examples
Structural indicators
- publication patterns - sometimes visualised in maps (e.g. Citation Map in Web of Science) with connections between authors, subject areas, countries and organisations
