Publishing Strategy - visibility of the journal
|
To consider: Is the journal indexed by the major reference databases Web of Science and Scopus and by Google Scholar?
Why? National allocation of research funds to the universities and allocation of research funds within SLU is partly based on bibliometrics. The data source for this is Web of Science.
Some research funders use Scopus data.
Most universities have access to at least one of these reference databases which means that most researchers around the world can search for and retrieve your publications.
Google Scholar is widely used by some researchers and editors.
Comment Usually you can find information on which databases that index the journal on the journal homepage, e.g. PloS ONE or Environmental Health. It is even better if more databases also index the journal

To consider: Is the journal Open Access (OA)? Is parallel publishing/self-archiving allowed?
Why? Several funders require Open Access publishing of research results.Note that the journals don't have to be Open Access for allowing the author to parallel publish. Parallel publishing fulfills the funders Open Access criteria. See About Epsilon. You get enhanced visibility, see Epsilon Open Archive dissemination scheme.
Comment
Read about OA and parallel publishing. See example of parallel published article. Check the journal at SHERPA/RoMEO, or go to A list of relevant journals (if you are a researcher within the subject animal health and welfare) . Check if the journal is open access in DOAJ. |
