The SLU Library gives students and employees at SLU access to a wide range of databases. You can search all of our databases in our search tool Primo, but it is also possible to search the databases directly.
Primo provides a single, user-friendly interface to all of the library's resources and gives a good overview of what is available. If you need more specific information it might be better to use a database on that particular subject. On this page you find a presentation of our most popular databases.
Web of Knowledge is our largest and probably most important international database, with more than 90 million documents. In Web of Knowledge you find the databases:
Scopus is a large general database with more than 33 million documents.
The search syntax is special: compound words must be put within quotation marks for the search to be correct. Example: (moose or "alces alces") and sweden
PubMed is a biomedical database with more than 18 million documents. It contains some veterinary medicine.
The references are classified using Medical Subject Headings (MeSH), which makes it easier to search for a specific subject.
The Google search engine for scientific material, Scholar, is interesting because it often searches in full text. Since it only covers what is available on the Internet the coverage is limited, but with its full text search and good search result ranking it is a good complement to other searching.
The search syntax is special: "brown bear" OR "ursus arctos" population sweden searches for brown bears in connection with population and sweden.
