Natural Resource Management and Livelihoods in International Development

About NRML

Background

The need to manage the world’s natural resources responsibly for coming generations continues to pose a global challenge. Scholars, practitioners, entrepreneurs, policy-makers and the private sector are in agreement that lasting solutions to today’s pressing problems require trans-disciplinary approaches and actions connecting geographical regions. Understanding these issues will require a combination of skills and disciplines that have as a pre-requisite collaboration and thorough research training. The main purpose of the research school will be to provide a forum for both researchers and doctoral students to engage in wider debate beyond traditional disciplinary boundaries. Furthermore, the research school aims to equip graduates with the tools and skills to work in the context of natural resource management.

The specific aims of the research school are to provide:
• A platform within SLU for post-graduate studies focusing on natural resource management and livelihoods in international development. The research school promotes collaboration among SLU scientists and partners outside SLU viz. donors, research institutes, academic institutions, policy networks as well as development agencies.
• An environment for quality post-graduate research activities i.e. courses, workshops, seminars, career development and mentorship.
