SLU’s Award of Excellence are individual grants to eminent senior researchers. It has been distributed since 2006 (2 MSEK per year during six years) in order to maintain senior, excellent scientists at SLU. An international panel has made the selection.

Torgny Näsholm´s research concerns nitrogen sources for plants and he has shown that plants can use organic nitrogen in the form of amino acids in the soil. The mechanisms involved are studied in the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana.
