On a yearly basis, all of the people involved in the Krycklan Catchment Study gather for a symposium. This is an excellent opportunity to understand the activities taking place in the Krycklan and get an insight into the most recent research questions within the project and elsewhere.

This year, a workshop has been arranged in connection to the 13th Krycklan Symposium. During the workshop, we will address questions regarding natural processes and management of small streams, particularly relevant to ditch network maintenance and riparian buffer management.

Krycklan symposium, September 28th. Anyone is welcome!

Whole-day field excursion, September 29th. Anyone is welcome!

Workshop, September 30th. Primarily invited participants only.

Natural processes and management of small streams

28-30 September 2016, in Umeå and Krycklan, Sweden

The 2016 Krycklan symposium (September 28th) will focus on process understanding and management of small streams in actively used forested boreal landscapes. The primary focus of this year symposium will be to improve the best-management-practices of forest waters. The presentations will be centered on the role of hydrological connectivity, water quality, and riparian ecology in small boreal headwaters. During the first half of the day, the presentations will focus around forest ditching issues and the consequences for water quality and ecology. The second half of the day, the theme will shift towards riparian practices and buffer management, presenting and discussing the state of the art methods for buffer delineation and practices in other regions/countries. As usual we will have invited speakers only, but all are welcome to participate, eat and bring your favorite Krycklan poster.

A whole-day field excursion (September 29th) will be organized to the Krycklan Catchment, presenting various projects and field research instrumentations. During the field trip we will visit a number of heavily instrumented forest sites, streams, lakes and of course the ICOS tower. A focus of the day will be on research infrastructure centering on hydrological connectivity of land and water. You will be served lunch in the field, and dinner at the Hotel Forsen in Vindeln. All are welcome!

A workshop (September 30th) with an invited subgroup of the symposium speakers and guests will be held at SLU, Umeå, focusing on scientific questions concerning riparian zone management. Primarily invited participants only.

The organization committee: Hjalmar Laudon, Lenka Kuglerová, Eliza Hasselquist and Anneli Ågren.
