Responses to societal values and contribution to policies
Invitation to a workshop January 25, 2011
Future Agriculture - livestock, crops and land use is an interdisciplinary research initiative at SLU. A strategic research programme has been developed within Future Agriculture during 2010. It addresses the sustainable use of natural resources with emphasis on agricultural production. Six workshops will now be arranged. The aim is to identify and develop research questions related to the challenges that have been identified within the programme. You can download the research programme here.
Sustainable development of the agricultural sector requires research that helps us to understand different sets of values, their origin, justification and implications. How will societal values affect the development of new food production systems? To what degree do past and present production systems influence consumers' choices? Which factors influence political processes leading to international and national agreements and policy instruments, and what are the effects of these policy instruments?
At the workshop, Agr. Gunnela Ståhle from Svenskt Sigill will talk about "Agriculture policies: Science based or based on scandals?". Thereafter, we will discuss research related to societal values and policies, and identify research questions that need to be answered in order to overcome future challenges in agricultural production. And yes, you will get some coffee.
You are most welcome to the workshop. Take this opportunity to influence future research at SLU!
